February!!!

Our Midway Parents organized another fantastic ski day to Nakiska on February 5 - the sun was shining and everyone had a wonderful ski day!

Midway Science Fair - we had 5 participants - all had fantastic projects and everyone advanced to the Mountainview Science and Technology Fair at Westglen School.
Garry - "Mold" - Bronze
Harrison - "Can you Increase the Force of Water" - Silver
Dwight - "How a Burglar Alarm Works" - Gold
Aiden - "Shiny Penny" - Gold
Dyllan - "Does the Height of a BuildingAffect Its Stability" - Gold

Two students received additional awards at the Mountainview Science and Technology Fair - Aiden, Grade 2, received a Gold Medal. Dwight, Grade 2, received an Engineering Award. Congratulations!!!!!

Midway participated in the Alberta Winter Walk Day on February 10 -- it is held to encourage people to get outdoors in the winter months! It was sponsored by SHAPE (safe healthy active people everywhere!) Our students walked for a total of 525 minutes. Lucky for us, the weather was very nice and not too cold.

In Art, the students made beautiful valentines tins for our Valentine Exchange on Feb 12.

100th Day Challenge on February 17 - students were challenged to bring in as many food bank items as they could - we wanted to reach at least 100 items.... and guess what?? WE DID IT! 131 Items were collected! Way to Go Midway - supporting those in need within our Community!

January!!! 

January was a very busy month with Food Bank Challenges, preparation for our Midway School Science Fair and the annual Parents and Staff VS the Students Floor Hockey Game.  As well, we spent our Physical education time at the Midway Arena honing our skating skills.

The Kindergarten class challenged the Grade 1 through 6 students to a Pajama day on January 22 - as everyone was in their pajamas - we held another Family Movie Night - great times and we were all very comfy!

December!!! 

December was a busy month for students - everyone participated in our Christmas play "Holly and the Ivy League.  There were elves, reindeer, judges and of course Mr and Mrs Claus! Great job everyone!  Our Midway Playschool performed the Reindeer Pokey. The Midway ECS sang several songs as well as having a part in the school play.

November!!! 

Scholastic Book Fair finished up on November 6. Congratulations to the following:

Poster Winners: Garry, McKinley, Colin, Kylie, Dyllan, Jonas, Carson, Raylene, David, Harrison, Aiden, Juanita, Lucy, Hunter, Belle and Quinn

Local veterans joined our students in a Remembrance Day service. The veterans, Mr. Bill Jepps and Mr. Tom Patterson, shared stories from their time in the service.  Thank you to David for reading the poem of Flanders Field to the school.  Mrs. Lappala read a Canadian story "A Bear goes to War" by Stephanie Innes and Henry Endrulat. The teddy bear featured in the story now resides in the Canadian War Museum.

Operation Christmas Child - our students and their families filled shoeboxes with much needed supplies for the Operation Christmas Child Collection - our 27 students and staff filled close to 30 shoeboxes!! Incredible!

Family Movie night on November 27 was well attended! Students and their families enjoyed a Christmas movie and treats.

September and October were busy months for Midway Community School!!! 

Our hilights:

September:
- Every student completed the Terry Fox Run - ALL our students completed a minimum of 10 laps around the Midway Mile. Midway School raised $445 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Congratulations to Garry - he won the Terry Fox t-shirt!
- The Super Cool Science Club started (yay, Mrs. Shultz - we made coke geysers and elephant toothpaste)

October:
- Turkey Trot - each student estimated how long it would take them to complete one lap of the Midway Mile. We had several students come within ONE second of their estimated time.  Congratulations to Dwight and Nils who were within one second of their estimation - Nils won the prize turkey.

Midway School's Service Project 2009/2010

The students have voted - due to the earthquake in Haiti - our students voted to donate our penny collection to a Haiti Relief Fund.
